Doorstopper has been V-much enjoying Moxie Marlinspikes digital content as of late. Firstly Hold Fast Is a super little film about the application of the CrimethInc, squatters mentality to sailing! Theres also some pretty cool software kicking around like http://www.googlesharing.net/ Hiding your searches from google, Nice. Moxie has also posted up some pretty fun stories from hitch hiking and stuff on the site too like this.

Hello bearers of genetic material for future generations. Since posting about feminism, life has been super fun and I nearly attended three gigs in a week, but no-one likes driving to Guildford after a 12 hour shift in 30 degree heat. So, WeGrowBeards will have to BideTheirTime for my attendance at onAe of there shows unless Fun Alf would stop being Uncommunicative Alf and respond to my facebook message about playing Spandeau Ballet at my Burfday Partie. Anyway last weekend was the last ever Homestead party, for those not l33t in the Southampton scene it’s a super grotty ex nursing home that was a big part of the DIY southampton punk (at this point I feel asleep. The following videos are from the homestead fest, a farewell to a ‘punk house’ from Southampton)
Woop Its feminist Wednesday on Doorstopper.
Feminism is amazing, its attempting to free people from unneccesery social obligations, obv develop equality between sexes and its incredibily interesting, both to use as a viewfinder on oneself, seeing what harmful ideas one may hold (myself included) and to evaluate media bias, evaluating publications and adverts ect. This parody below is a brilliant demonstration of gender bias with UK tv advertising and is shockingly recognisable.
Alot of people seem to say ‘oh women have the vote ect, were all equal now what more do they want?’ But there is still;
A massive paygap between men and women at 16.4% (http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2010/may/28/women-lose-out-on-pay) which is slowly improving.
Threats to reproductive rights with alot of the Tory cabinet voting to lower the abortion time limit in contradiction to scientific advice (definatly a slippery slope).
Eating disorders. According to MIND ‘As many as one woman in 20 will have eating habits which give cause for concern; most will be aged 14 to 25 years old.’ (Media getting involved here too)
The above isn’t exuastive and just a geocentric UK viewpoint. Less developed countries especialy with islamic leadership (nothing like a heady mixture of authoraterian governments and authoraterian religion all mixed up) tend to fair much worse. The other thing about feminism is that it’s unavoidably linked into other struggles, race, civil liberties, sexuality and trans gender issues all tend to overlap at some points.
Those of us in the ‘punk’ subculture needed to join as a rejection of everything else, feminism is a rejectiong of bad habits and nasty ideologies, Bikini Kill showed us that the ideologies are entwinned. Also I’m a Male, it’s for everyone, play nice.
Stuff to read:
http://www.theseventeenmagazineproject.com/ Someone trying to live for a month or so following 17 magazine ‘The Ultimate Teenage Handbook”
http://www.feministing.com/ My favorite of the big feminist blogs-regular updates and lots to read.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beauty-Myth-Images-Against-Women/dp/0099861909 One of the most important books on femenism even though it’s 20 years old now its still very modern (unfortunatly)
Due to my recently imposed status as a man of pleasure i’ve been able to catch up on what I was missing from Uni; hours vacuously staring at a monitor. Yesterdays choice was ‘Roger and Me’ Michael Moores first documentary (Available on google video if you look right, not that i would P-) ), about his home town Flint, MI. The films narrative is based around GM shutting down its factories in flint and moving them to Mexico for the cheap labour, It was an interesting examination of wether companies have any obligation to a population or geographical region. If you work somewhere you do develop a sense of ownership about a place, it obviously doesn’t have a legal standing but one wonders whether there is more to a companies responsibilities than just payment for labour. Commoning rights or an equivalent are never granted anymore, and perhaps that was a good solution especially with the distribution of wealth being so so so bizarre (you seen that rage against the machine video).
Always nice to be stimulated, Zap.

Truth is there probs way more punk than your band are spawnpacket, your band’s so punk and original cause you have a couple of guitars bassist and a drummer?
